We’ve all heard the saying “Just Breathe” but what does that really mean and how do we incorporate that into our daily routines?
Our newest guru, Rebecca Kordecki, shows the world exactly what it means to breathe and take it easy. Kordecki is a celebrity fitness instructor and health coach who has worked with various renowned people from politicians, athletes, celebrities, and entrepreneurs.
Rebecca’s philosophy has always been about being transparent about how health and fitness transformed her life. While there have always been different exercises and sports that get our heart pumping…she takes it one step further by going back to basics: Learning to Breathe.
Rebecca Kordecki – The Breath Zone
The Breath Zone was created to offer breathwork classes, courses and is her platform to share this great tool with those looking for a way to deal with anxiety, day to day stress, overwhelm, grief, anger and ultimately a tool for freeing oneself toxic emotions and stuck energy.
“Breathwork has been defined as the umbrella term for various New Age practices in which the conscious control of breathing is meant to influence a person’s mental, emotional and/or physical state, with a claimed therapeutic effect.”
The Breath Zone offers private and group classes in Los Angeles, CA and 2 years ago Kordecki introduced Breathwork Teacher Training Certifications for aspiring new teachers who want to learn a variety of breathwork techniques and the fundamentals of leading private sessions, group classes and basically take a deeper dive into all things breathwork.
Robyn: What is the difference between breathwork and meditation?
Rebecca: I always say “Breathwork is a gateway drug to Meditation”. You have to understand what you’re doing and if you can access the breath properly you can reach your healing so much faster, what’s great is that when you practice you can access it at any time.
Robyn: How did you create your breathwork method?
Rebecca: Well, I did not invent the method. I have adapted my own style over the years which is a collection of many masters. I realized that this was the next level of transforming people’s lives. I have combined my coaching style, along with circular breathing and music. Even though I did not invent the style of breathwork I teach – I do bring my own unique flair and personality to how I share it with my students and clients.
Robyn: What are the benefits of breathwork to those who are not familiar?
Rebecca: Breathwork is a magical practice that has been around since the beginning of time. It started with yogis and monks in many different disciplines where it was used for meditation and connecting the heart and spirit. I know for myself when I was younger I had little direction and ultimately ended in dealing with an addiction to drugs which led me down a dark path for many years. After I hit “my bottom” I finally shifted my focus to my health and fitness which is when my whole life changed. And many years later when I discovered breathwork I realized that I could not only help people physically but also mentally and spiritually. Basically helping people “become the boss of their happy and healthy.”
Robyn: Is there a particular type of breathwork that you focus on?
Rebecca: Breathwork has evolved into so many different practices over the years but the main practice I like to focus on is called conscious circular breathing. It is a three-part breath pattern, typically all done through the open mouth. It’s a cycle of breathing, so it’s a belly breath, a heart breath, and then a soft, gentle exhale, but all through the mouth, which is different from how we typically breathe. This style is often referred to as holotropic breathwork.

Robyn: How effective is breathwork for releasing trauma?
Rebecca: There is a beautiful, emotional release that comes with breathwork. When we meditate and breathe in and out through the nose, it’s beautiful and calming and certainly so appropriate during times of stress. Especially what we have just been through in the world there is an enormous amount of trauma and pain to unpack. Calming ourselves down through gentle breathing is beautiful, but when you want to go an extra layer, another level, this conscious circular breathing just seems to be what I call a direct hit to the heart. In one session there can be a huge release of emotions, trauma, pain and fears.
Robyn: What made you make the shift from Celebrity Fitness Trainer to Breathwork?
Rebecca:I love teaching and helping people feel empowered in their bodies with their health and fitness, but I wanted to go deeper. Breathwork has the power to do that. I was always someone who wanted to go deeper. To go underneath all of the masks, the walls and the layers, and even all the work I had done throughout my life – which I thought was as deep as I could go…breathwork was the first thing I found that really allowed me to go even deeper every single time.
Robyn: So what can we look forward to from you in the recent future?
Rebecca: I am really excited to be finishing up my book on breathwork. This is going to go in-depth on the benefits, different techniques and practices. I am also really looking forward to continuing to expand my teacher training certification to larger audiences and in more countries. I know with more trained breathwork teachers we can continue elevating the planet, one person, one breath at a time.
There is no question, after all, we have been through the last few years if we need a gateway drug to anything it is some deeper healing. Sometimes it’s as simple as taking a deep breath.
